Car Licence and Tuition
A learner permit is a licence issued to learner drivers. It enables them to learn to drive. If you got your learner permit after 5 April 2011, you will have to wait 6 months before you apply for a driving test and you will be required to sit 12 EDT (Essential Driver Training) lessons.
Reduced EDT - What Is It?
If your country has a licence exchange agreement with Ireland, you may be eligible for reduced Essential Driver Training (EDT) which speeds up the process of getting a new Irish licence. Reduced EDT allows you to complete 6 EDT sessions instead of 12 and you don't have to wait six months to sit a test.
EDT - What Is It?
Essential Driver Training (EDT) is a training course teaching fundamental driving skills to learner car drivers. EDT is mandatory to all learners who received their first driving permit on or after 4 April 2011. This consists of 12 lessons by an approved Driving Instructor.
How Do I Get A Learner Permit?
